Taking inspiration from Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is one of my favorite photographers, in fact, she is probably number 1 on my list of photographers that inspire me the most in my own work. Her cinematic style of portraiture is truly stunning.

As part of a Homage essay I am currently working on at college I have been creating something in the style of Annie’s work. I chose to use the portrait of Jimmy Fallon that she did back in 2004, Jimmy is pictured topless, with braces on and a white painted clown face.

I’ve decided to have a go at this myself. I didn’t want to do an exact replica because I think that could be quite boring. As much as my own images share a lot of similarities, I didn’t have the rich red clothes to drape on the background to give the image the same kind of atmosphere as the Jimmy Fallon photograph by Annie.

I actually quite like these and they grow on me the less I look at them. You know what it’s like as a creative. The more you sit there and analyze your work you end up hating it. Having taken some time away from them and come back to look at them I am quite happy with the results I’ve got.

As always, I would love some feedback. Let me know what you think.
